What is Insemination Treatment (IUI)?

Insemination (IUI) is safe and affordable and is one of the least invasive fertility treatments. It is often the first treatment option for women with open fallopian tubes and a good egg reserve. It's also ideal for single women and same-sex couples who need donor sperm to conceive, but have no underlining fertility issues.

In IUI treatment, clinicians insert specially washed sperm into a woman’s womb at the most fertile point in her menstrual cycle. The procedure is usually easy and pain-free. IUI can be carried out with your own partner´s sperm or with sperm from a donor. The treatment can take place within your natural cycle, or in some cases ovulation is stimulated with an injection to trigger the release of eggs.

We offer high quality IUI with simple protocols and personalised treatment plans. Treatment can be delivered flexibly, with consultations via video call. You can undertake scans and tests with us or at a fertility clinic in your home country, keeping your travel time and costs to a minimum. The insemination procedure takes place in our modern clinic in the heart of Copenhagen.

Your funding options

In collaboration with Human Finans, Livio offers the possibility of advantageous loans and financing for your fertility treatment. For example, it is possible to take an interest-free loan for an IVF treatment and split the payment over 6 or 12 months.

You can contact Human Finans by phone at 08-560 201 15 or visit their website for more information and free advice.

Possible Side Effects of Insemination Treatment

During the latter part of hormone stimulation, the abdomen may feel tense and tender due to enlarged ovaries. It's also common to feel emotionally affected during these days.

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) occurs in 1-2% of IVF cases. Symptoms include abdominal swelling, pain, and difficulty breathing, usually appearing after embryo transfer. Treatment varies with severity, from rest and clinic monitoring to hospital care. There's an increased risk of blood clots, and blood-thinning treatment may be necessary. Pregnancy is not negatively affected.

The risk of OHSS has significantly decreased with shorter hormone stimulation (antagonist protocol). Today, all embryos can be frozen and transferred later in the woman's natural menstrual cycle or with simpler hormone stimulation, reducing risks for the woman while maintaining pregnancy chances.

Insemination Treatment Frequently Asked Questions

First steps
Who will I speak with?

A doctor will be the first person that you will see.

Will I be able to receivive a treatment plan ahead of starting treatment

Of course.

What’s the first step to IVF?

The first step is for you to come in for an advanced ultrasound scan and a virtual consultation. The first appointment is the scan; this is an internal scan with an advanced 3D Doppler scanner and will help us assess the blood flow in the ovaries, follicles and womb as well as checking ovarian reserve. We perform a 3D scan to assess the cavity of the womb to rule out any problems for implantation. They will also check for obstructions such as cysts and polyps. Following on from the scan you will have your virtual consultation where the doctor will go through the results and your medical history and devise a personalised treatment plan for you based on these.

Do I have to come for the scan on a particular day of my cycle?
No, you can come for the scan on any day of the cycle, including during your period if you are comfortable with this - it doesn’t make any difference from the scanning point of view.

Do I have to have the scan done again if I’ve had one elsewhere?
We request that every patient have a scan within 3 months before starting any treatment. It is at the doctor’s discretion whether they will accept a scan from another clinic; however most doctors prefer to have a scan performed at CREATE because our doctors have been highly trained in scanning methods and will be able to assess multiple aspects of your fertility. Our scanners are 3D Doppler scanners and look at the blood flow in the ovaries and womb as well as checking ovarian reserve.

Should I bring anything with me?
If you have medical notes, from previous treatment for example, you can send copies of these to us in advance to be added to your file. Otherwise you do not need to bring anything with you.
