An IVF treatment is an individual process. Therefore, it is also difficult to estimate the total cost of treatment leading to a pregnancy. Within the Livio group, we strive to maintain as consistent pricing as possible, but the varying conditions at different clinics may sometimes result in slight price differences from clinic to clinic. Please feel free to consult us, and we will guide you!

Egg Donation Treatment
Since January 2019, private IVF clinics in Sweden have been allowed to carry out treatments with donated eggs. Livio Malmö is proud to now offer high‑quality egg donation treatments with short waiting times.
Egg donation is offered to couples and single women where the woman lacks ovarian function or has severely reduced ovarian function. Causes can include early menopause, diseases, previous surgery, or chemotherapy that has damaged ovarian function. Egg donation may also be an option if repeated IVF treatments have not resulted in pregnancy.
Who can receive donated eggs?
Deciding to accept a donated egg can be difficult, and it’s important to take the time needed before making a decision.
- For couples, both partners must attend a consultation with one of our doctors at the clinic.
- We will review previous treatments and confirm that the medical, psychological, and social requirements for egg donation treatment are fulfilled.
- Treatment can only be offered if the future child is judged likely to grow up under good conditions.
- The woman receiving the treatment must be of reproductive age and under 46 years old.
- Necessary blood tests will be carried out.
- The evaluation also includes a session with a behavioral scientist, who performs a more in‑depth psychosocial assessment and provides the opportunity to discuss the emotional aspect of undergoing egg donation when the child is not genetically related to both parents.
In Sweden, only identifiable (open) donors are allowed. This means that once the child reaches maturity (around 18 years of age), they have the right to obtain the donor’s identity through our clinic. The child can also receive background information about the donor, such as education, family, and interests, and may contact the donor. However, there are no legal or financial obligations or rights between donor and child.
How does treatment work?
During fertilization, donated eggs are combined either with a partner’s fresh sperm or with donor sperm from a sperm bank. In the case of double donation, the retrieved eggs are fertilized with donor sperm. Fertilization takes place using standard IVF or ICSI (microinjection).
The fertilized eggs (embryos) are cultured for 5–6 days until they develop into blastocysts and are then frozen. Embryo transfer with a thawed embryo to the recipient takes place once her uterine lining has been prepared.
In many cases, more than one embryo is frozen, which allows additional transfer attempts later on if needed.
Treatment for the recipient woman usually begins around three weeks before embryo transfer with hormone tablets. A few days before transfer, vaginal hormone suppositories are added. This combined treatment continues for some weeks afterwards.
How are egg donors screened?
All our egg donors are evaluated by Livio clinics through the Livio Egg and Sperm Bank. Donors:
- Have no known hereditary diseases in their family
- Have a good ovarian reserve
- Are between 23 and 35 years old
- Are tested for several infectious diseases (including HIV, hepatitis B and C, and syphilis)
- Undergo genetic screening to ensure they are not carriers of certain inherited diseases
A donor may contribute to children in a maximum of six families (including possible siblings).
In Sweden, donation can only be made for altruistic reasons. A small financial compensation is paid to the donor to cover travel costs and lost income.
What are the risks?
It is important to remember that if the recipient is older (for example, over 40), pregnancy itself carries higher risks compared with a younger age. With egg donation, there is also a slightly higher risk of high blood pressure and pre‑eclampsia during pregnancy. These risks are always discussed in detail during the medical consultation before treatment begins.
Egg donation, however, reduces age‑related risks of chromosomal abnormalities. For example, a 40‑year‑old woman has about a 1 in 100 risk of having a baby with trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) when using her own eggs, but if donor eggs are from a 30‑year‑old donor, the risk decreases to the same level as for a 30‑year‑old woman (1 in 1,000).
Double Donation
Since January 2019, IVF clinics in Sweden are also allowed to carry out double donation (using both donated eggs and donated sperm). In these cases, the child will not have a genetic connection to the intended parent/parents.
This option can be offered:
- To couples who, for medical reasons, cannot use their own eggs or sperm
- To single women
- To female same‑sex couples who need donated eggs

Your funding options
Many of our treatments can be offered with public funding. For regionally funded treatment, there are certain requirements such as the age of the woman and man (may vary between regions), that the couple does not have children together previously, that the man or woman is not sterilized or that the woman is not underweight or overweight (regions may have different BMI limits). If the couple or woman is entitled to regionally funded care, treatment can also take place at private clinics that have agreements.
In collaboration with Human Finans, Livio offers the possibility for advantageous loans and financing of your fertility treatment. For example, it is possible to take an interest-free loan for an IVF treatment and split the payment over 6 or 12 months.
You can contact Human Finans by phone at 08-560 201 15 or visit their website for more information and free advice.

Malmo Clinic Frequently Asked Questions
A doctor will be the first person that you will see.
Of course.
The first step is for you to come in for an advanced ultrasound scan and a virtual consultation. The first appointment is the scan; this is an internal scan with an advanced 3D Doppler scanner and will help us assess the blood flow in the ovaries, follicles and womb as well as checking ovarian reserve. We perform a 3D scan to assess the cavity of the womb to rule out any problems for implantation. They will also check for obstructions such as cysts and polyps. Following on from the scan you will have your virtual consultation where the doctor will go through the results and your medical history and devise a personalised treatment plan for you based on these.
Do I have to come for the scan on a particular day of my cycle?
No, you can come for the scan on any day of the cycle, including during your period if you are comfortable with this - it doesn’t make any difference from the scanning point of view.
Do I have to have the scan done again if I’ve had one elsewhere?
We request that every patient have a scan within 3 months before starting any treatment. It is at the doctor’s discretion whether they will accept a scan from another clinic; however most doctors prefer to have a scan performed at CREATE because our doctors have been highly trained in scanning methods and will be able to assess multiple aspects of your fertility. Our scanners are 3D Doppler scanners and look at the blood flow in the ovaries and womb as well as checking ovarian reserve.
Should I bring anything with me?
If you have medical notes, from previous treatment for example, you can send copies of these to us in advance to be added to your file. Otherwise you do not need to bring anything with you.
