Important information regarding "private" sperm donors
We have received reports that men claiming to be approved donors at Livio advertise "private sperm donation" or "home insemination." We strongly condemn this.

Several of our clinics have received calls from people who, via Facebook groups, have seen men advertising "private sperm donation" or "home insemination" while claiming to be approved sperm donors at Livio Egg and Sperm Bank. This is something we strongly oppose across all Livio operations.
We want to warn against this type of donation, as it can involve serious risks for you as parent(s) and for the child.
Sweden has very clear legislation regarding sperm and egg donation, based on the child's perspective. The donor is anonymous to all involved until the child reaches adulthood (18 years old), when the child may choose to learn their genetic origin. Donors have no rights or obligations toward the child and vice versa.
Private donations not only pose health risks—you as the recipient can never be sure of the donor’s health status and what risks you and a future child may face—but also serious legal complications concerning custody, finances, etc.
If someone claims to be an approved sperm donor at Livio to assist with private inseminations, we want to warn that this could be an attempt to misuse the careful medical and psychological screening we conduct, pretending to be legitimate and healthy donors despite never having been at Livio or having been denied donor status. Since there is no national donor registry in Sweden, all Livio donors must certify in writing that they do not donate elsewhere. This prevents a donor from fathering children in more than six families.
There are many social media groups for people planning or considering fertility treatment, providing valuable tips and support. These groups are important, and we at Livio are grateful when informed of activities that contravene our medical and ethical principles and values. Thank you!
